Question 1: What is the minimum number of internship days to be completed?
Answer: The minimum number of training days to be completed is 50 working days (at least 20 days On-site and at least 20 days Office).
Question 2: How many days of internship may be completed in a company?
Answer: The Department expects that each internship component (On-site or Office) is completed at a single organization (all 20-30 working days). If this is not possible for a valid reason, each component (On-site or Office) of the internship must be completed at a maximum of two organizations. Each internship at an organization must cover a minimum of 15 working days.
Question 3: Where can I do my internship?
Answer: Students can work in areas related to hydraulic, environmental, transportation, geotechnical, and structural engineering. Students are encouraged to do their internships in planning, design, construction and operation of different structures such as buildings and bridges, water treatment and distribution systems, highways, ports and harbors, airports, tunnels and underground constructions, dams. A student may train in any of the following categories of job operation: maintenance, construction, planning management, design.
Question 4: How can I find a suitable organization for internship?
Answer: Students are encouraged to find the internship companies on their own. They may also refer to the announcements that may be made by the Department regarding possible internship positions.
Question 5: What are the periods allowed for internship?
Answer: Students may undertake their internships during the summer and winter breaks. Internships are not permitted during any academic term in which the student is enrolled in courses, including the corresponding final examination periods. Students may work on weekdays and Saturdays, but not on Sundays, national holidays, or religious holidays.
Question 6: Can I undertake an internship during the Summer School period while enrolled in courses?
Answer: No, students are not permitted to complete their internship during the Summer School period while taking courses (including the final examination period).
Question 7: When is the deadline to submit the internship documents?
Answer: All the required documentation (the training program diary and the forms) must be submitted within 30 days from the start of the first academic term following completion of the internship.
Question 8: What happens if the internship documents are not submitted by the deadline?
Answer: One day will be deducted from the total internship period for each day the submission is late. If the deadline is exceeded by seven days, internship will be considered INVALID.
Question 9: Where do I have to hand my documents in?
Answer: The students have to hand in their internship documents to the Department Secretary.

- Do NOT submit your documents without referring to the submission checklist (see Department internship website).
Question 10: What documents must students submit?
Answer: Students are required to submit the following forms below.
- Training Program Diary
- Assessment of the Internship Form (included in the Training Program Diary, submit it as part of the Training Program Diary)
- A report combining the theoretical and practical aspects of the work completed (within the Training Program Diary, the report should be approximately 1000–2000 words in length and include a full bibliography)
- Intern Evaluation Form (Employer Report on the intern, stamped and signed by the Engineer/Section Head of the Company, this document should be given to you in a closed and sealed envelope)
Question 11: What are the requirements for stamps (kaşe) and approval signatures on the training documents?
Answer: Intern Evaluation Form must be signed and stamped. All pages of the report, as well as the weekly training programs, must also be signed and stamped. Please refer to the instructions provided at the beginning of the ‘Training Program Diary’ document.
Question 12: Can I submit the ‘Intern Evaluation Form’ in person along with the other documents?
Answer: Yes, you may submit them in person; however, ‘Intern Evaluation Form’ must be placed in a closed and sealed envelope by the internship company at the training/internship site.
